Fifth Grader Day

10/6/2025

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Pueblo County High School’s Marching Band had a visit from Vineland Elementary School, South Mesa Elementary, and Avondale Elementary's fifth-grade students. The visit was intended to encourage fifth graders to join band and start playing an instrument in school, and show them how much fun the class really can be.

“The kids were very interactive and it was a great experience!” said junior, Carley Genova.

The PCHS marching band taught the fifth graders about some of the instruments they use, like the tuba, the trombone, and other band instruments.

“I think the fifth graders had an amazing experience with the band and might want to play an instrument in middle school through high school,” said sophomore, Jordan Vigil.

Before the fifth graders left, the marching band performed a mini show for the students on the PCHS football field with music from the marching band's show.

Sarah Smith, South Mesa music teacher says, “My favorite part of the event as a teacher is getting to see my students watch the high school kids with such excitement and respect. They really look up to the older kids and talk about them a lot after the trip.”

Overall, the fifth grader day was a successful and productive experience, with high school band students leaving a lasting impression on younger students.
