On Thursday, Jan. 23, Pueblo County High School’s  P.E. Department hosted the annual Badminton Tournament to help raise money for new equipment for the physical education classes.

It is held in the main and auxiliary gymnasiums at PCHS, easily accessible for students to enjoy. Every team is required to have a female and a male, and can allow for staff and students to play on the same team. Coed teams ensure fair play.

Teams make custom jerseys and dress accordingly. This year’s tournament raised around $500 with 122 participants. The tournament winners were Mr. Koshak and Mrs. Sciacca, with Clayten Laughlin and Mrs. Kraus taking second.

Badminton participant, Mario Espinoza states, “I decided to join the tournament to get out of school and have fun playing an unorthodox sport. My favorite part of the tournament was playing tough games against really good teams.”
