The Heart of Healthcare

HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. When doing HOSA you gather lots of real world experiences, knowledge, and skills.

HOSA has too many events to count, and you get various opportunities to find what interests you. HOSA members shadow actual medical practices one would do in a medical work field.

As Keelyn Tucker, senior,  says, “You're only in highschool for 4 years so experience it all.” Tucker’s favorite aspect is to shadow in HOSA is the health promotion with her peers. There are numerous events to choose from and health promotion was a presentation event.

An average meeting of HOSA according to Tucker would be, “We talk about SLC and our events a lot,” she says. They also talk about if anyone needs help. SLC stands for State Leader Conference, and this is a state competition. They go to state at the beginning of semester two to test their skills in the medical events they have chosen. You can also choose multiple events for state. Since HOSA is mainly a group oriented program you get to meet new people and friends. Along with traveling. “Even if you don’t think you’ll like something you might turn out loving it.”

Joining a club gives you lots of new experiences and personal growth. High School is 4 years of your life and it is up to you to decide how to live those 4 years.
