Gingerbread Man v. Sugar Cookies
During the holiday season many people make different kinds of treats, many of which being cookies. In the U.S gingerbread men and sugar cookies have been a staple of the holiday seasons for centuries. Well not everyone likes these two cookies, they are still the most recognizable cookies when it comes to thinking about the holiday season.
Yet, which do people prefer the most? Both do have their pros and cons that can be picked out. Many would vote for the gingerbread men cookies because of the famous story of the Gingerbread Man. Well also, 47% of voters have fun memories of making gingerbread houses decorating them with family and friends. Matissen Lewin, senior said, “I really enjoy decorating the gingerbread man around the holidays.” Others however, may say that gingerbread cookies taste bad which makes sugar cookies better, with 53% voting for sugar cookies. They could claim gingerbread cookies are too hard, while sugar cookies are more soft and fluffy, and easy to eat with every bite. Families who like sugar cookies more remember waiting for them to finish baking while you plan the decorations for each cookie. Brienna Panariso, sophomore said, “I prefer sugar cookies because they have a better texture and also satisfy my sweet tooth.” Whichever people prefer, everyone can decide that these two cookies are some of the best treats to have around the holiday times, especially with a warm glass of milk on the side. It was a close poll between the two cookies. Don’t forget to enjoy the holiday seasons. Make sure to vote on the next poll @pchs.yearbook_ |
Nightmare before Christmas
|
By Javin Martinez
The Nightmare Before Christmas movie has always been a cult classic but the exact time to watch it has always been up for debate. The show's plot follows Jack Skellington's quest to nullify his boredom from attending the annual Halloween festival. Although Jack is praised for his ability to organize the festivities by all and including the Pumpkin King, this does not seem to even quench his thirst to achieve the perfect Halloween. Along his search, he stumbles upon Christmastown, a silent cheery village that awaits the coming of Santa Claus. Jack finds out about Santa Claus and decides to set a plan in motion. A plan that involves him stealing Christmas and replacing Santa Claus with himself. This sets up for later conflict down the road and ultimately a hard choice for Jack. So the question remains, is it a Christmas movie or is it a Halloween movie? Although the majority of the main characters take inspiration from Halloween the plot mainly revolves around Christmas. A question this controversial can't be answered by just one person so a poll will decide if indeed The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. The poll results are as follows; 55 percent say Christmas movie, and 45 percent say Halloween movie. A ten percent excess of people voted for The Nightmare Before Christmas being a Christmas movie. The movie definitely has a lot of Christmas elements but also a lot of Halloween elements as well, so it makes sense for people to vote for the movie as being a Christmas movie. |
The Best Christmas Candy
|
By Arianna Barela
Christmas is always filled with holiday treats, from fudge to candy canes. There has to be one people prefer though. Candy canes date back to the 1600s, being a family treat for years. This is likely because of the versatility they offer within the flavors. Traditionally, candy canes are mint flavored and come in red and white, but over generations they have changed to different candy flavors, colors, and so much more.
Though Fudge hasn’t been around as long, it is still a staple around the holiday season. Being another versatile candy with flavors and combinations it can come in. Fudge can be caramel, chocolate, toffee and more. Traditionally it's made out of chocolate and has some sort of nut in it. During the holidays these treats are easily recognizable, being sold all season at so many stores. It's easily giftable, and delicious. They are very different from each other, but one has to be on top. The poll of Candy Canes v Fudge tries to figure this out, putting candy canes and fudge up to each other to see which Pueblo County High School’s students might prefer. It was a very close match, ending with fudge on top. Fudge received 53 percent of votes and candy canes had 47 percent. Eliana Tucci, senior, who voted in favor of fudge claimed, “Fudge has a better flavor,” as to why she prefers this treat. This made fudge the best Christmas treat according to PCHS students. Still, many people preferred candy canes. Michael Applegate, senior, said “I like how many different flavors they come in.” Even with the poll, it's clear many people think both are very good treats during the holiday season. |
Hot cocoa vs eggnog
|
By Bri Panariso
It’s seen as traditional to enjoy hot warm drinks when the weather turns cold and Christmas movies begin airing on channels again.
A common classic beverage that has been drunk around holiday times for as long as many can remember, is eggnog. Eggnog is a sweetened dairy based drink that many enjoy and have a preference for once the weather starts to grow cold. Another popular option for this time of year is hot cocoa. Mixing warm milk with chocolate and marshmallows on a cold snowy day by the fireplace is idealistic to many individuals. Pueblo County High School grew curious upon their students' preferences between the two. To fulfill the wonder, a poll was conducted and released to conclude the ratio between the preference of eggnog versus hot cocoa. Javin Martinez, junior, stated in regards to the poll, “Hot cocoa, personally, has always been a traditional drink between family and friends around the holiday.” Many students openly agreed that hot cocoa was the best between the two options. Nearly 85% out of around 115 votes agreed with Javin’s quote, allowing us to see the preference rate shown through the statistics. |

Poll on Schooling
by: Chastity Cornett
This week's poll is about school education through COVID-19: “Which one, online school or in building, did you feel more successful in?”
Like all issues, there were mixed responses, but an overwhelming number of students said that education inside the building made them feel more successful.
"When we have in-building learning, I feel more successful because I can ask more questions and be shown how to do things, and I get more one-on-one learning. It gave me more of a social life and a reason to enjoy school,” said Senior, Taylor Gonzales.
Over 80% of the students agreed with her. The online schooling didn’t seem to be anyone’s favorite, but there were some students that didn’t mind it. Even teachers talked about not liking online schooling.
ESL teacher Mrs. Audree Colarelli said, “I did not like online because I couldn't help as much and I couldn't see all the happy faces.” One of the math teachers, Ms. Michelle Sciacca also didn't like the online. Sciacca said, “Math is definitely harder to teach over computers and I feel like everyone didn't understand it as much as they would have in actual class.”
On the flip side, there were students that enjoyed the online no matter how complicated it was. Sophomore, Allen McCarty said, "I enjoyed online because it allowed me to do my work at my own pace. I also enjoyed that I could stay in my jammies and stay in bed all day on the school days.”
Other students just had a love-hate relationship with online schooling. "I enjoyed online because I could simply be lazy while completing my studies," said Senior, Arik Bergman. "But I felt more successful in the building because I had teachers to making sure I was doing everything correctly and they were right there if I needed help."

To The Future vs. Back To The Past
By: Riya SinghThe poll prompt for Pueblo County High students this week was, “Given the circumstances of COVID-19, would you rather travel back in time or into the future?” It was quite intriguing to see how students tend to feel about this topic. It proposes the question of whether they would prefer to alter the past, or skip over the current section of their lives. As for the results, about 40% of students answered the past, and nearly 60% replied with the future out of the 42 voters.
When asked her opinion, sophomore Alissa Hancock stated, “I would want to travel to the future to see what I have accomplished throughout high school and what I become when I’m older.” It seemed to be a common theme throughout the student body to wish to see their future selves. However, those who voted in favor of the past possessed strong opinions as well. Speaking in favor of this group, sophomore Morghan Autobee stated, “I would enjoy traveling to the past with knowledge of the future, because I could better prepare myself for the adjustment into a quarantined lifestyle.” The quarantine and online schooling has certainly made a significant impact on the students at PCHS. Instagram vs Tik Tok
By: Angelina RomoThe weekly poll was posted on the Buzz’s Instagram. This week’s poll was the argument over social media, TikTok vs Instagram. TikTok has recently blew up, it is now an app that nearly everyone has. The results can support that fact TikTok had the percentage of 85% leaving Instagram with 15%.
The students we had interviews had strong opinions on both subjects. Freshmen Evin Valdez had voted for TikTok when asked why he replied with “I believe TikTok is more entertaining. I can sit and watch TikTok all day without getting bored, if I were on Instagram all I would do is scroll through everyone’s photos, that’s no entertainment.” TikTok is known to make funny videos for fun, with PCHS students being on social media at all times I’m sure they can say a thing or two about TikTok. We can’t forget about Instagram, Freshmen Thomas Vigil stated on this subject “TikTok is used to much, sure you get a laugh here and there but eventually it is repeating the same trends and people are just watching the same thing over and over again. At least when I’m on Instagram I have a variety to look at, TikTok just gets boring after a while.” Since we had so much votes on TikTok we were able to interview multiple people! Senior Kaylin Mares had voted for TikTok and when asked why she replied with “I choose TikTok because there is a lot of scenarios that I can relate to !Instagram is more of an app that I can post/see pictures that can be more of a memory or to keep on my friends and family.” As you can see TikTok overpowered Instagram at PCHS. Both freshmen and senior had valid opinion, what’s yours? Be sure to tune in for the next poll @thebuz.county! |
Vans vs Converse
By: Amairani Chacon This week’s poll for PCHS students was Vans vs. Converse! A total of 64 students stated their opinions on the Buzz’s Instagram. 78% of the votes were in favor of Vans. But the other 22% of voters would rather have Converse.
One of the 14 votes in favor of Converse was sophomore, Myia Gallegos. Gallegoes expressed, “I like Chucks (Converse) more because they last longer. I’ve had a pair for about 5 years and they still look good as new.” Junior, Anna Saathoff, was also in favor of Converse over Vans. Saathoff stated, “I like converse more because I can wear them more placed without falling!” The other voters preferred rocking a pair of Vans rather than Converse. Sophomore, Mackenzie Blasing, said, “I like Vans more because they go with more things and they’re more ‘in style’ right now.” Another student who agrees with Blasing is Kaylee Chavez, junior. Chavez said, “I choose vans because I love all the different patterns and colors they come in and they always match with any outfit I have on!” Tune in for more polls and state your opinion on The Buz’s Instagram (@thebuz.county)! |
Chocolates vs Flowers
By: Angelina RomoValentine’s day is just around the corner, which Valentine’s Day gift would you prefer, Chocolate or Flowers? A total of 41 PCHS students tuned in on this weekly poll, the results lead more towards flowers with a total of 30 votes (41%). On the other hand, we had 21 votes (59%) for chocolate. We followed up asking some of the students that voted, “What did you vote and why?” Freshman, Allissa Hancock, voted chocolate, stating, “Why would I want flowers just so they can die? At least I can eat the chocolate and be happy. What am I going to do with flowers look at them all day and just think ‘oh they’re so pretty’?”. With Hancock saying this started an argument. Freshmen, Rae Lee Gonzalez stated, “At least he thought of you enough to get you flowers, I would want someone to get me flowers. It’s the thought that counts.” Make sure to tune in on the next poll posted on the Buz’s Instagram @thebuz.county |
Mexican vs Chinese Food
By: Angelina Romo and Amairani Chacon This weekly poll for PCHS students is Mexican Food vs. Chinese Food. A total of 32 students tuned in to voice their opinion on the Buzz’s poll. Students showed their preference on what they prefer when it comes to enjoying a meal.
Out of a total of 19 individuals, junior, Lindsey McCurry was one who preferred Mexican over Chinese. McCurry said, “I just prefer Mexican over Chinese overall.” The other 59% seem to agree with McCurry since the majority of voters preferred Mexican. The remaining 13 voters would rather have Chinese. One of them happened to be sophomore, Maria Alvarez. Alvarez expressed, “I usually tend to crave Chinese more and Chinese food is not as spicy as some Mexican foods.” Make sure you tune in for more polls on the Buzz’s Instagram! @thebuzz.county. |
