Pueblo County High School’s annual Badminton Tournament was held on Thursday, Jan.  16. Various teams competed against one another to try and make it to first place. The tournament lasted all day and teams worked hard to try beat their competitors. There was a total of 64 games, and it was double elimination. Teams were required to consist of one male and one female player, making up the team of two. In the end, Mrs. Vialpando and senior, Jesus Cisneros won the annual tournament.
Freshmen, Justyna Camacho –Wauson and Josiah Hernandez played in the tournament together as a team. Camacho said, “I signed up for badminton because I thought it would bring good memories for my first year of high school.” Hernandez added, “I signed up because I thought it would be fun.” Camacho and Hernandez said, “even though we didn’t know how to play we had fun participating.” Camacho included that she was a “little nervous to be in front of the whole school playing bad mitten when she had no experience with it.”
The final two teams consisted of Vialpando whose partner was Cisneros, and Mr. Stupar who was partnered with senior, Erin Mauro. While competing, both teams each won once match which caused them to go into a third round. Because of this, they went into extreme overtime that caused the match to last until a bit after the school day. Despite their efforts, Stupar and Mauro were rewarded second place while Vialpando and Cisneros took first place.
After all efforts everyone in the tournament was happy to see the winner and runner up consist of seniors celebrating their last year here at county with participating in school events.
