Diving into the Competition!

5/16/2022

By: Joy Lopez

Coached by Ken Gornick, the PCHS Boys Swim team has been endlessly working and practicing for the numerous competitions the team participates in. Unlike other sports, each events points are added together to determine team score, joining swimmer's and diver's to result in more of a team feeling and less competition against your teammates. John Jagger, senior, advised his teammates to “Try to have fun with swimming, talk to your team mates, get to know them, swim hard, and have fun.” It is an unique atmosphere that is fostered by coaches and swimmers themselves to create a family of sorts. This year was remarkable with eight state qualifiers John Jagger, Ben Trujillo, Garrett Dyleski, Otis Shinn, Jeremiah Delatorre, Jack Brown, James Brubaker, and Duncan Balicki all representing our hornet nest. Ben Trujillo, senior, explained “I hope accomplishments like recapturing the league championship as a team this year carry the same weight of the new friendships and memories we’ve all made together.” This year is the final goodbye for the 11 seniors who have dedicated four years to this extensive sport. All bid farewell and good luck to their teammates who continue their legacy after them.
