On Friday, January 21, 2022 three of our classmates at Pueblo County High School took the initiative and the courage to write a play script to submit to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA).

One of those three writers won the competition. The student is Jocelyn McMullen, senior at PCHS. The play is called Insectivore and is about two characters, Mothman and Ryan being converted to veganism.

As I read the play, I noticed the brilliant writing and work that was put into it. As such I encourage people to read it if possible. The two other people that participated in the competition were Rosemary Coughlin, and Jesse Sigler. The winners of the event were announced on an online platform, the reason the participants didn’t go to the arts center directly was because of COVID-19 concerns.

When I asked Jocelyn the reason why she wrote the play about mothman, she told me “I was really terrified of Mothman in my childhood because we had to read a story about him, when the competition came about I was really really sick, and I spent most of my childhood really really sick, so of course being sick brings back memories about Mothman, so I wrote about him being converted to veganism.” Jocelyn represented Pueblo County High School in this competition. I'm sure everyone here is proud of her for the amazing work and effort she put into her writing and spotlight she gave Pueblo County High.

As Jocelyn is one of our fellow students we would like to congratulate her for the amazing effort she put into her writing as she represented PCHS.
