Rifle Team Match

12/8/2022

By AJ French

On Dec. 6 Pueblo County High Schools’ Rifle Team traveled to Fountain Fort Carson High School to shoot a National Match to attempt to qualify for another match to Georgia.

PCHS A Team shot a 2,015 score in total, with 31 bullseyes. The top shooter on the A team is Sariga Suresh, a sophomore, who shot 533 with 15 bullseyes. Overall PCHS A Team took third place in the whole National Match. PCHS A-Team will be continuing on to Georgia and will be going on their trip from Jan. 18-22.

Raquel Martinez, a senior on A Team said, “When you first walk down the stairs you don’t know what you are in for, and as you finish the introduction and continue the practice you learn to strive for better scores. Online matches soon become traveling matches and going to different schools and you eventually build up to going out of state. You stop shooting with an individual purpose, you shoot for your team, and get better for them. After a while it starts feeling like finding your home, you find your place and fit in a jigsaw, you start finding your alignment in life.”

PCHS B Team shot a 1,900 score and had 33 bullseyes. The top shooter on B Team Cheyanne Ainsworth, a freshman, shot a 488 score with 11 bullseyes. PCHS B Team got ninth place overall but will not be making it to Georgia for another match. They have a lot more other chances to prove themselves and have the whole next semester to do it.
